Our second day in Echuca was a bit of a slower and more relaxed one. We had a quiet morning at home with breakfast and the kids just enjoying playing – this place we’re in has a decent sized cubby out the back, and they’re just loving the time to play and explore that.
Later in the morning we headed back down to the Port to finish exploring a few things in the Discovery Centre around the steam trains. And then importantly, a bit more of a play at the amazing park beside the port.
We headed down the road to Twisted Science – a brilliant, hands on science exhibition here in Echuca. We came across this place when we were looking for a paddle steamer tour, and we found a package which included both a paddle steamer tour and entry to Twisted Science. We had an amazing time – it’s very much aimed at the kids, but there was plenty for us to do with them as well. Each little station was so much fun, but it came with a bit of a lesson in how the thing worked, or why the result was the way it was. The kids didn’t necessarily pay attention to every single one of those – but even if they picked up one or two of them, it was a win. And in the end, the fact that they had so much fun was worth it.
And they also had a fun blue screen photo booth that we had some family photos in!
After our session in Twisted Science, we headed across the road to Beechworth Bakery for lunch. We visited this place in Bendigo – and the lunch was really nice, but it was quite delayed by a couple of mistakes on their part. They very kindly gave us 5 lunch vouchers to apologise, and so we decided to use them for lunch here in Echuca. We each got to enjoy a pie, a cake and a hot drink.
We wandered back to our cottage alongside the Campaspe River walk, and then have just enjoyed some more down time here this afternoon – the kids have been enjoying playing the card game Spoons (we taught it to them last night!). Tonight we’re taking advantage of the BBQ on the back deck for dinner, and then it will be time to start packing things up for the trip to Mildura tomorrow. The drive tomorrow may be fairly long, but we’re looking forward to seeing a few really interesting things along the way!
Spoons is always a hit!! 😀
Those pies look pretty scrumpious!
