Day 93 – Travel to Sydney

Tonight, we’re home! Home for us is on land belonging to the Terrameragal people of the Dharug nation. So grateful for our home, and for the Dharug people for caring for it for tens of thousands of years. We continue to pay our respects to the Dharug elders past, present and those still to come. After 93 days, we’ve driven 20,007km. Over that time, we used an astonishing 1961L of petrol. We stayed in 36 different towns across 5 states.…

Day 92 – Coffs Harbour

And there it is: three months to the day since we farewelled Sydney, we’ve just finished up the final day of this holiday. We still do have a few things planned for the drive back home tomorrow though… Today was a very fun one, and a perfect final day. We spent the whole day at the Big Banana! I didn’t actually realise there was a fun park here – I thought it just had banana information and tours. But all…

Day 91 – Coffs Harbour

The second last day of adventures for this holiday. Today was another special day for the family, with another birthday adventure – this time it was for Daniel’s 11th birthday (which was back on day 79). After a bit of a play down the road at a park to get rid of a bit of energy (and for me to enjoy a coffee), we headed off to the beautiful Dolphin Marine Conservation Park. Initially when you arrive, it does feel…

Day 90 – Travel to Coffs Harbour

For the final few days of this holiday we’re staying on the lands of the Gumbaynggirr people, in the city we now know as Coffs Harbour. We pay our respects to the Gumbaynggirr people and their elders past, present and emerging. We’re on the home stretch! Back in NSW for the last few days of this mammoth and epic trip. It’s hard to believe three months has flown by – but at the same time, I think we’re all ok…

Day 89 – Currumbin

We headed out to the coast today, to the area now known as Currumbin. We’re still in the Yugambeh nation’s land, but Currumbin is the lands of the Kombumerri families or clans. Today was a visit to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary – primarily just for Eliza’s birthday present of an Echidna experience, but we also enjoyed a wonderful day all over the park. It’s been a bit of a difficult path to get Eliza’s birthday present over the line. We’d originally…

Day 88 – Travel to Tamborine Mountain

We’ve spent today on the lands of the Wangerriburra people of the Yugambeh nation. They knew this area as Wonglepong, and we now know it as Tamborine Mountain. We acknowledge the Wangerriburra people as the owners of this land, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and still to come. We headed off from Landsborough this morning to continue the journey down the Queensland coast. Mum is still with us for another couple of days yet, and today…

Day 87 – Australia Zoo and Landsborough

Tonight, we acknowledge that we’ve spent the day on the land of the Gubbi Gubbi people – the lands where Australia Zoo now sits, and where the town of Landsborough now sits. We pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging. Today was a day of Australia Zoo! My mum had bought the kids tickets to Australia Zoo for Christmas a few years ago, and we decided we’d use them as part of this holiday. And as a…

Day 86 – Hervey Bay

Today was a day filled with beautiful family time. We started with a slow morning at Mum’s place, which was wonderful and welcomed. Before long though, my sister and her three kids came round, and Daniel, Eliza and Alexander had a wonderful time playing with them. There were plenty of laughs and running around and silliness – they only get to see them once or twice a year, so there is always much excitement when they get together. In the…

Day 85 – Travel to Hervey Bay

We’ve arrived with a sense of relaxation to the lands of the Butchulla people, in what’s now known as Hervey Bay. We acknowledge the Butchulla people as the owners of this land, and pay our respects to their elders. The sense of relaxation is because we’re staying at my Mum’s place for a couple of nights – and it’s kind of like being home! We’re here every summer, and so the kids (and us) instantly feel at home when we…

Day 84 – Rockhampton

Today was a day spent adventuring through a few different things in Rockhampton – I think we got quite a bit covered in one day! First stop was up to Mount Archer – known as Nurim by the Darumbal people. It’s only a really short drive from the centre of Rockhampton, 15 minutes up a windy road to the top of Mount Archer. We headed off for a wander on the Nurim Circuit Elevated Boardwalk, a beautiful winding boardwalk that…
