Day 8 (NSW) – Travel to Cobar

We made the turn east and have started heading back towards the coast today, arriving in Cobar. These are the lands of the Ngiyampaa people, and we’d like to pay our respects to their elders past and present. We headed off from Broken Hill early this morning, keen to make the trip across to Cobar by early afternoon. We were all packed up and out of our little cottage in Chloride St by 7:15am, and after a quick coffee stop,…

Day 7 (NSW) – Broken Hill

Today was a huge day exploring plenty that Broken Hill had to offer. We started out up at the Line of Lode Miners Memorial – a beautiful tribute to all the miners in Broken Hill who have lost their lives over the past 140 years. The Line of Lode is the long body of ore that sits in the centre of Broken Hill, where the lead / zinc / silver mining first commenced (and still occurs today). The memorial is…

Day 6 (NSW) – Travel to Broken Hill

Today was a huge day of driving, but here we are in Broken Hill – the peak of our trip! Grateful to the Wilyakali people who have looked after this vast area in western NSW, and we pay our respects to them and their elders. There were three fairly big driving stints today – 90 mins, then 2 hours, and finally 2.5 hours. The first stop after leaving Hay was the Yanga Woolshed, which was about 5 minutes away from…

Day 5 (NSW) – Travel to Hay

We’ve arrived in Hay for a very short stopover this evening. The area of the Hay township is where the Nari Nari people have lived for thousands of years, and we pay our respect to them and to their elders. With Hay only being about 90 mins away, we spent most of today in and around Griffith. The day started with heading up to the the huge hill and scrubland area that overlooks Griffith, called Scenic Hill. Up there we…

Day 4 (NSW) – Travel to Griffith

We’ve arrived in Griffith this afternoon, still on the lands of the Wiradjuri people. The day started with a very short trip down the Snowy Mountains Hwy to the next town – Adelong – only 15 minutes away. We ended up spending a lot longer here than we’d planned, because there was just a lot to walk to and see! We started out on the Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail – Adelong has one of the biggest collections across the Valley,…

Day 3 (NSW) – Travel to Tumut

It’s been a long day of driving, but some brilliant adventures. We’re currently enjoying a pub dinner in the centre of Tumut as we write in our diaries – and turns out it’s Trivia night at the pub, so we’re doing that as well! Tumut is the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri, Wolgalu and Ngunnawal Aboriginal peoples, and we are so grateful for their care of this land for thousands of years, and recognise their continuing connection to this area.…

Day 2 (NSW) – Cooma

Today started with a bit of a slow morning, because the day was going to be spent just exploring what Cooma had to offer – with only a couple of specific plans in mind. At about 8:30am we started to wander from where we’re staying, in an area apparently known as the “Royalside” of Cooma (the earliest parts of the town, on the southern side of the town) into the centre of Cooma. We stopped off at the Southern Cloud…

Day 1 (NSW) – Cooma via Canberra

Day 1 of the NSW trip is in the bag, and it was so great to be back on the road! There was a lot of excitement as we got things packed yesterday, and a lot of memories of 3 years ago. Equally, there was perhaps a bit of sadness that it will only be 2 weeks this time around, rather than 3 months. We’ve arrived tonight into Cooma, the lands of the Bemerigal clan of the Ngarigo people. So…

Bonus extra: Round NSW

When we headed off around Australia in 2023, we always knew we would be missing out on a big chunk of our own backyard in NSW. So our plan was always to come back and start to adventure around our own state… and that time has arrived! During April, we’ll be heading around the southern half of NSW for 13 days: Hopefully in the coming years we’ll be able to take in the northern half of NSW – we’d love…

Day 93 – Travel to Sydney

Tonight, we’re home! Home for us is on land belonging to the Terrameragal people of the Dharug nation. So grateful for our home, and for the Dharug people for caring for it for tens of thousands of years. We continue to pay our respects to the Dharug elders past, present and those still to come. After 93 days, we’ve driven 20,007km. Over that time, we used an astonishing 1961L of petrol. We stayed in 36 different towns across 5 states.…
