Day 1 of the NSW trip is in the bag, and it was so great to be back on the road! There was a lot of excitement as we got things packed yesterday, and a lot of memories of 3 years ago. Equally, there was perhaps a bit of sadness that it will only be 2 weeks this time around, rather than 3 months.

We’ve arrived tonight into Cooma, the lands of the Bemerigal clan of the Ngarigo people. So grateful to be staying in a very beautiful terrace in Lambie St on the south side of Cooma – apparently some of the original streets of Cooma when it was settled. We’ll be here for a couple of nights, and looking forward to exploring Cooma a bit more tomorrow.
Today’s first stop was just the same as 3 years ago – quick drop into Goulburn, and a photo with the Big Merino! Except this time it was a very short stop – just some leg stretching, snacks, and of course a photo with the first big thing of the trip. Although, this one doesn’t really count because we’ve seen it before… don’t worry, there will be more!

We arrived in Canberra at about 11:30am and pulled together some sandwiches from the boot of the car, while trying to avoid the rain that had followed us into Canberra.

Then it was Questacon time! Although it was a public holiday and school holidays, it thankfully didn’t feel hugely busy. We explored each of the different exhibitions throughout the afternoon, and the kids (both big and small) had a great time. Debbie and I were really excited about getting to the Earthquake house – it’s an actual house now, not just the metal platform that it was when we were kids! We had plenty of fun being creative as a family with shadows and musical lasers, and riding the Freefall drop slide. We ended up being there for more than 4 hours – including finishing up the day at one of their shows.

Definitely a great start to this holiday!
Interestingly, the day overall did feel like a little bit of a mirror of three years ago – but that’s not a bad thing! It was great to tick off another great part of Canberra on our way through and onto more adventures. From here on in though, there will definitely be new adventures!
