Day 92 – Coffs Harbour

And there it is: three months to the day since we farewelled Sydney, we’ve just finished up the final day of this holiday. We still do have a few things planned for the drive back home tomorrow though…

Today was a very fun one, and a perfect final day. We spent the whole day at the Big Banana! I didn’t actually realise there was a fun park here – I thought it just had banana information and tours. But all that seems to have now taken a bit of a backseat to all the fun park activities! Not that the kids were complaining.

We arrived a bit after 9am and got a few obligatory photos. We then went for a wander through the self-guided banana plantation tour. It was a simple and quick little wander, which takes some of the path of the old monorail that used to be here.

We then headed for the toboggan first up. It was the ride the kids were most excited about – and it turned out that was the best time to get there, as we only had a short wait in the queue (later on in the day, the queue was a good half an hour long!). It was a great little track – only a few corners, but more than enough to get up some decent speed and fly around the corners!

Next up was the giant slide, and we had plenty of fun here. Easily the place we spent the most time at. You get to race down the slide, and your times and places are recorded (including any false starts where you jump before the green light). It immediately brought out the competitive nature of Daniel and I mostly. We proceeded to test out all the different lanes to work out which was the fastest, and also change over our slide mats when we felt like they weren’t as fast as they could’ve been. There weren’t often many people here, so we churned through plenty of slides each. The only downside was the long and steep walk to the top each time!

The other ride / attraction that got a lot of our time was laser tag. I think all up we had about 5 games here. In particular, the last couple of games as the afternoon was coming to an end were plenty of fun. There weren’t many people there, and so it was just changed from a team game to a free-for-all. And by that stage, we had all played quite a few games and worked out our own strategies, and the younger two in particular were feeling confident enough to play on their own (rather than hang with Debbie all the time).

We also fitted in a game of putt putt, which was a bit of fun again – our third game on this trip, and I was excited to take out the Round Australia Championship, having won all three games of putt putt on the road!

Tonight, we’re finishing up the day with another trip down to Coffs Harbour Jetty, but this time for some delicious ice cream – Eric & Deb’s Homemade Ice Cream! We said to the kids that this is probably their last ice cream out for a little while – we’ve definitely had a lot. But it’s a holiday, so why not!
